تسلّط الندوة الضوء على تجربة واحد من أبرز المبدعين في الموسيقى والمسرح العربي الحديث، حيث يجتمع الحضور لمناقشة أعماله التي مزجت بين الفن والالتزام السياسي والاجتماعي. تستعرض الندوة ملامح شخصية زياد الرحباني الفنية بوصفه صوتًا ناقدًا وجريئًا، عبّر من خلال ألحانه ونصوصه عن قضايا الإنسان العربي وتطلعاته. كما تتناول تأثيره العميق على جيل كامل من الفنانين والجمهور، وكيف شكّل أسلوبه المتمرّد مساحة فنية تجمع بين الإبداع والموقف.

The seminar “Ziad Rahbani: The Voice of Rebellion” highlights the journey of one of the most prominent creators in modern Arab music and theatre, bringing audiences together to explore his works that intertwine art with political and social commitment. The discussion sheds light on Rahbani’s artistic identity as a bold and critical voice, who expressed the struggles and aspirations of the Arab individual through his compositions and writings. It also examines his profound influence on an entire generation of artists and audiences, and how his rebellious style created a unique artistic space that merges creativity with conviction.

زياد الرحباني.. من بعد هالعمر وثائقي من اعداد جاد غصن يرافق فيه زياد في البروفات الخاصة وفي الستوديو وفي حفلاته منذ عودة زياد للنشاط الفني بداية عام 2020، ويعرض من خلاله لمسيرة زياد الفنية وللمراحل الاساسية من حياته والتي كوّنت نهجه الموسيقي ومواقفه السياسية منذ انطلاقته بداية السبعينيات الى اليوم، مع التركيز على أعماله الفنية التي عرفت والتي لم تلاق الانتشار نفسه.
“Ziad Rahbani… After All These Years” is a documentary prepared by Jad Ghosn, accompanying Ziad during private rehearsals, in the studio, and at his concerts since his return to artistic activity at the beginning of last year. The film presents Ziad’s artistic journey and the key stages of his life that shaped his musical approach and political stances, tracing his path from the early 1970s until today, with a focus on both his well-known works and those that did not receive the same recognition.
1959 the year that changed Jazz - السنة التي غيرت موسيقى الجاز
كان عام 1959 عامًا مفصليًا اهتز فيه عالم الجاز، حيث تحرر من تعقيدات موسيقى البيبوب نحو أشكال جديدة، مما منح العازفين المنفردين حرية غير مسبوقة للاستكشاف والتعبير. وكان أيضًا عامًا محوريًا بالنسبة لأمريكا: فقد كانت الأمة تعيش لحظة ازدهار، تتمتع بحرية وثروة لم تكن في الحسبان؛ فيما كانت التحولات الاجتماعية والعرقية والسياسية على الأبواب؛ وكان الجاز متقدّمًا بخطوة على هذه التحولات.
في ذلك العام صدرت أربعة ألبومات كبرى تمثل علامات فارقة في مسيرة أصحابها وتعكس بقوة روح العصر. كل واحد منها فتح آفاقًا جديدة للجاز ما زالت آثارها تُشعر حتى اليوم
1959 was the seismic year jazz broke away from complex bebop music to new forms, allowing soloists unprecedented freedom to explore and express. It was also a pivotal year for America: the nation was finding its groove, enjoying undreamt-of freedom and wealth; social, racial and upheavals were just around the corner; and jazz was ahead of the curve.
Four major jazz albums were made, each a high watermark for the artists and a powerful reflection of the times. Each opened up dramatic new possibilities for jazz which continue to be felt: Miles Davis, Kind of Blue; Dave Brubeck, Time Out; Charles Mingus, Mingus Ah Um; and Ornette Coleman, The Shape of Jazz to Come.

The Danish artist Søren Baun – aka BAUN – will take you on a musical journey from his personal perspective of being both a pianist and a singer, a songwriter and an interpreter.
Through a presentation of songs from his repertoire, an original, a personal cover of a song by The Beatles or Stevie Wonder, or a jazz standard, Søren Baun will touch on subjects such as interpreting and rearranging with a personal touch, the interaction between voice and keys, sound and dynamics, and not least the wonderful world of harmony. He will sing, play and talk, and do his best to answer questions along the way. Feel free to join!

تيمو فولبريخت، عازف الساكسفون ورئيس قسم دراسات الجاز في جامعة براون بنيويورك، يدعو المشاركين لاستكشاف فن الارتجال والإمكانات اللامحدودة لآلاتهم الموسيقية. من خلال عروض عملية وتمارين موجهة، سيشارك تيمو رؤى حول كيفية تطوير صوت موسيقي فريد، والتحرر من التقاليد، ودفع الحدود الإبداعية إلى أبعد مدى. تهدف هذه الجلسة إلى إلهام الموسيقيين على اختلاف مستوياتهم لاكتشاف طرق جديدة للتعبير، وتعميق علاقتهم بآلاتهم، واحتضان الحرية التي تشكّل جوهر الارتجال في موسيقى الجاز.

Timo Vollbrecht, saxophonist and director of Jazz studies at Brown University, NY, invites participants to explore the art of improvisation and the limitless possibilities of their instruments. Through practical demonstrations and guided exercises, Timo will share insights on developing a unique musical voice, breaking away from convention, and pushing creative boundaries. The session is designed to inspire musicians of all levels to discover new ways of expression, deepen their connection with their instrument, and embrace the freedom that lies at the heart of jazz improvisation.

Our two-hour workshop focuses primarily on your specific needs and questions as a vocalist.
We will sing together as a group and work directly with our voices, but we will also address and discuss questions from participants.

Dutch-Turkish singer, musician, and composer Sanem Kalfa will lead a masterclass titled “How to Choose Your Right Bandmate”, where she shares insights from her acclaimed project Televizyon. Bringing together four established musicians from diverse backgrounds—each a strong bandleader in their own right—Sanem reflects on the challenges and rewards of collaboration, and how she carefully selected the right partners to shape the project, which was supported by a special grant.
